Why The Fear of Delegation is Costing You Money

Does the word “delegation” fill you with dread and send you into a sweaty-palmed, heart-racing spiral?

As entrepreneurs, letting go of control and allowing others to take the reigns doesn’t come easy to us.

Sometimes, it’s hard for us to recognize and admit we need support, let alone take the steps to actually put those supports in place.

We have an attachment to our business that is difficult to break. There is a level of ownership and pride that we just can’t let go of.

We think that we are the only ones that can do a task or get a specific result. We tend to think that no one could do it quite like we do.

However, other people can do these tasks and get these results, oftentimes, better than we can!

By being able to allow others in to support us, we enable ourselves to take a step back and focus on the big picture.

We give ourselves space to do the tasks that fill us up, that are in our sweet spot, and that generate income.

When we are stuck doing tasks that we dread and aren’t in our sweet spot, we tend to take longer and produce lower-quality work, thus, costing us money.

This doesn’t just go for our businesses, but for our daily lives as well.

Whether it’s delegating the tech-savvy tasks you dread in your business or cleaning your house, taking these tasks off of your plate is a step in the right direction.

Think of it this way… if it’s not a hell yes, it’s a no!

So how do we learn the art of delegation? How do we learn to admit we need help and actually fucking ask for it?

Delegation is like a muscle. It takes practice and patience.

Start small, grab a cute notebook and pen, and make a list of all of the tasks that you don’t love, that aren't in your sweet spot, and that would make you feel 100 times lighter knowing you don’t have to do anymore.

Keep this list by your computer for a week and every time you complete a task that makes you think, “Gosh I hate doing this,” or “I think I could easily show someone how to handle this for me,” or “I would have so much more time in a day if I didn’t have to do this,” write it down. These tasks now fall into your “to delegate” category.

After a week of doing this practice, it’s time to take the next step and find the right fit to help you! Maybe it’s someone on your team, a virtual assistant, or simply a house cleaner.

Don’t beat around the bush, because that’s costing you money, remember?

Get on the phone, send an email, whatever you have to do to seek the right support for you.
